I actually started this one several months ago, and decided to let it wait while I finished some less expensive guitars. This is the first one I paid much money for the materials. Usually I use cedar and mahogany from Menards. This one is EIR from Grizzly, Sitka top, desert ironwood bindings, headstock veneer, fingerboard, end graft, and bridge. Zipflex purfling, front and back. The fingerboard is bound with rosewood. My first bound fingerboard. Gold fret wire. The tuners will be gold. |

Today I finished sanding the back and sides. Now I'm going to try using shellac to pore fill. |

Beautiful!! Can't wait to see it finished. Really like your use of the shell, big fan of the small ring in the rosette. Tell me how you liked working with Zipflex. I'm thinking about ordering some to use on a future guitar I'm designing. Keep up the good work. |

My only complaint is the engineered breaks every 1/8". Not too noticeable though if you're more than a foot or so away. |

Today I located and masked the bridge, masked the fingerboard, and started spraying. |

That looks flawless to me, and mighty tasty wood choices throughout, too. I'll be lined up with everyone else to see pics after it's polished out and strung up. Congratulations. |

I love that desert ironwood. It looks great! I always wanted to try it but thought it was too heavy...What are your thoughts? Can't wait to see the final pics! |

Mitch, The ironwood is very heavy, but probably no worse than ebony. Using it for the accent pieces like I am won't make the guitar too heavy, I don't think. It is gorgeous though... Bit of a pain to work with. Failure rate of the binding was fairly high. Takes a great polish, as the pics of the bridge show. |

Thursday I wet sanded this one. I'm not real happy with the finish, though it probably is the best so far. Before sanding: Part way through: The bridge after buffing: |

That looks really nice Philip. Cool bridge shape. Your finish turned out pretty good from here |

Rod True wrote: That looks really nice Philip. Cool bridge shape. Your finish turned out pretty good from here Thanks Rod! The finish looks good in the photos, but in person, there are some definite flaws. Hopefully nothing I can't fix though. Here's the last of the in-process pics, and some finished pictures, but I'll try to take some more in better lighting: It's not 100% done, I have to finish the nut, fine tune the action, and fix those cosmetic blemishes, but it is playable, and sounds great! |

Well, I was just going through some folders on my computer, and found some pics of the bracing I forgot I had. So here they are: And yes, I did cap the the X before closing the box. This is by far the best sounding guitar I've made. I hope I can duplicate it. |

It looks thicker than the Rossette so you are probably correct on the 0.064" size. Thanks. |

MetalOne72 wrote: It looks thicker than the Rossette so you are probably correct on the 0.064" size. Thanks. Yep, I've checked, and it was the .064". I wouldn't go wider with Zipflex because of the really tight bend at the waist. |
